South Stoke Barn is a beautiful 19th century original barn located just a couple of miles from Arundel. Situated in the South Downs, the venue is within a tiny hamlet with just a few other houses, surrounded by stunning countryside. It provides the perfect balance of a remote, private setting for your wedding, while being easily accessible from the likes of Worthing, Littlehampton, and Chichester.
Issy and Jamie wanted a relaxed venue that they could DIY, and with South Stoke Barn providing couples with access from the Thursday before, this was perfect for them.

South Stoke Barn retains mostly all of its original features, including the brick work and charming timber beams. All areas of the venue are within easy reach, with 2 floors to host celebrant-led ceremonies and receptions.
The ground level, open-fronted area can be used for your ceremony as Issy and Jamie did, and it provides a sheltered area for your reception drinks, should the weather not play ball. The upper level is the enclosed area of the barn that is used for your wedding breakfast and evening party.
Bridal Preparations at South Stoke Barn

I joined a very excited Issy at one of the cottages within the hamlet where she was getting ready with her bridal party. This cottage can also provide accommodation for the couple on the night of the wedding.

Issy and Jamie had already had their legal ceremony and had wanted to share a celebrant-led ceremony with their friends and family.

Emma the celebrant, led Issy and Jamie’s guests through a lovely, personal ceremony, giving a heart-warming account of the couple’s story so far.

After the ceremony, Issy and Jamie emerged from the tower where their guests showered them with confetti.

It was a glorious summer’s day, so the drinks reception was held on the lawn area. Issy, Jamie, and their guests drank Champagne, played lawn games, and admired the very friendly cows in the next door field.

After their family shots, the photographer, Dave and I, took Issy and Jamie off for a little stroll around the grounds of South Stoke Barn. The beautiful countryside and rustic walls and beams made for amazing backdrops for their shots.

The wedding breakfast was held on the upper floor of the Granary Barn, where the walls were adorned with photos of Issy and Jamie’s relationship through the years. The bride and groom both gave speeches, as did 2 bridesmaids, and their best man.

After cutting their cake on the lower level of the barn, guests gathered to watch Issy and Jamie sashay their way onto the dance floor for their first dance. The couple were eager for their guests to join them, and once they gave the signal, they were quickly joined by almost every guest there. I was there for around half an hour of the dancing and could see that the energy would continue long into the night!

South Stoke Barn is a wonderful wedding venue in West Sussex for a DIY wedding, like Issy and Jamie’s, where they wanted to personalise as much as possible through the décor. The venue can also help with recommending various suppliers, from caterers to venue dressers and celebrants to entertainment. With the historic town of Arundel just a stone’s throw away, it really is a lovely option for a rustic, relaxed wedding.
