Castle Wedding Venues in Cheshire

Many brides want to feel like a princess on their wedding day and walk down the aisle towards their knight in a shining new wedding suit. A beautiful dress and perhaps a sparkling headpiece can undoubtedly make any bride feel like royalty, but getting married in a castle can make the fairytale wedding a reality.

Cheshire has a few castle wedding venues to choose from with grand turrets and medieval décor. Plan your fairytale wedding at one of these magnificent venues.

Ruthin Castle

Although not technically in Cheshire, Ruthin Castle is on the border of North Wales, so it is a great option if you’re dreaming of a castle wedding venue near Cheshire. Ruthin Castle is as authentic as it comes, with previous owners including King Edward I, Henry VIII, and Elizabeth I.

If you’re looking to truly embrace the heritage of the venue and add a unique twist to your special day, then you can choose to dine in the banqueting hall with a medieval feast – complete with his and hers thrones. Alternatively, hire a marquee for your reception to make the most of the lovely grounds and to accommodate more guests.

With acres and acres of parkland surrounding the castle, there are so many opportunities to explore with your wedding videographer or photographer.

Hot Tip
Explore the ruins, walk hand-in-hand around the gardens, and you may even see a peacock or two roaming the grounds.

Great Hall Peckforton Castle Ceremony

Peckforton Castle is a magical wedding venue located in the woodlands of the Peckforton Hills. Although Peckforton Castle wasn’t built in medieval times, it has all of the traditional features you would expect from a castle, including a moat, bridged gatehouse, and turrets.

The grand hall is absolutely spectacular, with a magnificent vaulted ceiling and stained-glass windows. Be sure to check out Peckforton Castle’s Instagram to see some of the examples of how the room can be dressed, from beautiful blossom trees to hundreds of candles adorning the aisle. Or keep it simple without decorations and let the ornate beauty of this room shine through.

For something a bit more intimate, the venue also offers 4 other licensed ceremony rooms, such as the chapel with traditional pews or the rustic wine cellar.

Throughout the castle, flagged floors, open fireplaces, and suits of armour complete the medieval décor and create a cosy romantic atmosphere. At the same time, the outdoor terrace provides a lovely space in the castle grounds to enjoy reception drinks on a sunny day.

Hot Tip
The venue even provides a sword to cut the wedding cake with. Talk about making a statement!

Upper House Hayfield

Upper House Hayfield is a magical wedding venue situated in the spectacular surroundings of Kinder Estate in the Peak District (just outside of Cheshire). The house dates back to the 14th century, so is steeped in history. With charming castle features, such as a clock tower, medieval banqueting hall, and cobbled pavings, it has been lovingly restored by the family that now owns and runs the venue.

Weddings have exclusive use of the venue, and Upper House Hayfield only takes 12 weddings a year. With packages including accommodation for up to 28 guests, you can have your nearest and dearest staying with you at the house accommodated in elegant bedrooms. There’s also plenty of accommodation in a nearby village for additional guests.

Couples can choose to marry indoors in the medieval great hall or the lounge for a more intimate setting. The venue is also licensed for outdoor ceremonies to be held beneath the clock tower or under the solstice archway for beautiful views of the nearby Kinder Reservoir.

Crabwall Manor Hotel & Spa

Crabwall Manor Hotel & Spa is a beautiful country manor located just a stone’s throw from Chester. The building dates back to 1600, but the castle battlement frontage was not added until much later, so although no kings and queens have lived here, it still has the most charming appearance of an old fort.

The venue can accommodate up to 85 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast and up to 150 for the evening party, and couples can choose to hold their ceremony in the lovely conservatory or two elegantly appointed rooms (Lyle or Jacob Suite). Crabwall Manor has 48 bedrooms, so you can have all of your guests staying with you to enjoy a fabulous breakfast the next day. The bride and groom may access the spa facilities the following day, including the use of the indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi to relax and reflect on their celebrations.

The wedding coordinators can be as involved as you like, providing a full planning service and liaising with your suppliers or just providing some useful advice. It’s entirely up to you. The outdoor terrace and grounds are perfect for taking some time just the two of you for a couples shoot. Stroll in front of the castle frontage while your wedding videographer captures drone footage of you and the beautiful surroundings.
